Cotter pin, 1/8" or 5/32" X 2" will work. Get a J-Clip / hairpin/ hitch pin / whatever they're called in your neck of the woods, 1/8" or 5/32" will work, I reckon.. CA Stu. PS From buykawasaki.com, PIN-COTTER,4.0X 35

BTW if someone tries to sell you a Nylock axle nut, run away screaming. A prevailing torque nut (like Jake's countershaft nuts) is safe, but a big inconvenience if used on the axle since it never "lets go" of the axle threads and you need wrenches not just to loosen it, but to spin it off also. Damn, am I the only one running Dual-Stars Fuji lock nuts?? I have them on the front and rear axle's and never deal with cotter pins, e- clips, and nails. I hated messing with those things for as long as it would take me to loosen the nut and adjust my chain. These nuts work great! I have loosened and retightened the rear at least 50 times, and the thing just stays where I put it. Once loosened, it can't be spun off by hand of coarse, but it's not as tight as a nylock nut, and doesn't wear out like one. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)
