corbin flat leather vs. vinyl

Post by Todd McKinnon » Mon Sep 08, 2003 11:04 am

Ordered Corbin Flat for my 2003 Klr 650 and it came in at just over 1 week vs 4 weeks they told me to expect. To my surprise it arrived all Vinyl instead of leather as I had expected and requested. I had understood that the sides were always vinyl but the top could be leather. I called Corbin and was told that most Corbins for Klr are vinyl due to rigors of trail riding and weather exposure. Was also told if I wanted to change it was my problem/expense because as far as they are concerned Vinyl was ordered. Does anyone have opinion for Klr 650 Corbin Flat, whether I should insist on leather or is vinyl just as good if not better. I suppose I can live with it, but wonder pro's and con's of leather Corbin top vs. vinyl for a 50/50 bike. Thanks for your feedback. By the way, they left out the Saddle Cream I ordered, which was on the packing list, but they did agree to send that to me at no charge. (The reason I ordered the Saddle Cream was because of leather, but maybe I won't fight with them about it.) Thanks, tlm ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Call them again and ask them to look at their web site, the flat one talks about leather "Remember to care for your leather saddle properly" but the dished one talks about only vinyl.. -----Original Message----- From: Todd McKinnon [mailto:todd_mckinnon2000@...] Sent: Monday, September 08, 2003 10:02 AM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] Corbin Flat Leather vs. Vinyl Ordered Corbin Flat for my 2003 Klr 650 and it came in at just over 1 week vs 4 weeks they told me to expect. I like my KLR as high as I can get it too. Although I'm only 5' 10 1/2" tall. You can "jack it" by doing a few things. One is to make sure you have the fork tubes slid down all the way the the top in the triple trees. Also, you can crank up the preload on the rear spring, or put in some longer spacers in the fork tubes, to up the preload there, but this will affect your ride quality. You can add stiffer springs, in the forks, and on the shock, but that will affect your ride quality too. You could lose some weight, or at least I could, thats for sure. If you want to contest this, you can contest the charge with your credit card company. That should get their attention, and then you can discuss its return with them. It sucks that you ordered a vinyl and they sent you a leather. I got a leather from them a couple of years ago and no one mentioned that excuse. I suspect the builder just didn't notice. That said, I got leather because I live in the God Forsaken Desert, and my bike never sees rain, and I need the breathability. If you live in an area of any rain to speak of, you might want the vinyl for it's waterproofness. Jett, A15 AZ --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, Todd McKinnon wrote:
