I won't get into the "what kind of oil do I use?" stuff, but its a "level" question. When filling and checking the oil, i use the sightglass and a rough guestimate at what 2.5 litres is. Is the sight glass only for when the bike is at rest and not running? I looked at it while at a stoplight last week and there was no oil. I freaked out and pulled over. Stopped the engine and within a minute or 2, the sightglass was again at the upper "full" level. Does the engine push that much oil up into the bike while running, or do I need to add more? -j.

The sight glass is used to check the oil, when the motor is off, with the bike upright, off of the sidestand. The sight glass is also in the wrong spot on the motor. Next to the sight glass, you will see "2.5 L" on the side of the engine case. If you drain ALL of the oil in your motor and filter, and then measure out 2.5 liters, you will see that the oil level is quite a bit higher than the top of the sight glass.
