Hi Guys,
I've just bought a KLR650 (2003 model) which has a small 14
litre tank and would like some info on where I can buy a bigger tank.
I see some of the US spec bikes have a 6.1 gallon approx 28 - 30
litres. Can anyone advise. I need a mailorder deal as I live in
Johannesburg ,South Africa
cheers time being
Joe

long range tank klr 650
Two options come to mind if no listers have a tank for sale.
www.dual-star.com often has new KLR tanks for sale at a reasonable
price.
www.imsproducts.com has plastic tanks that fit the KLR. They also
have an unadvertised military version that holds more than the stock
tank.

newbie question -5k maintenance
newbie question -5K maintenance
Howdy,
I've been riding a few (three) weeks now and have already reached the
5K mark on my stock KLR.
Having new tires (I definately took the stock ones too far
, and a
new front sprocket put on.
What other things should I have done to the bike at this time? So
far oil/filter changes, air filter cleaned and plug replacement (even
though not needed) are the only things I've done.
I was thiking of:
- having the swingarm linkage lubricated (from what I've read here)
- having carb adjusted (leaned)
- valve clearances checked.
Is there any info I should provide to the mechanic doing this work?
He is an experienced mechanic on Ducati and BMW but not intimately
familair with the KLR650 so I'd like to provide him with as much
insight as possible.
Wondering what other things. I'm having this work done by other as
I'd rather spend my time riding than working on the bike and I'm not
master mechanic. Hence, I'd like to consolidate as much maintenance
at one time as possible.
Also, I've noticed that the chain gets dry fairly often -especially
when not on pavement. Wondering how often most of you re-oil the
chain. I've been going around300+ miles and I don't think that is
often enough. I ride a lot and hate to stop do do that but figure I
better change that attitude. Any suggestions on chain maintenance
would be apreciated.
Thanks a lot. Sure apppreciate and learn a lot from this list and
the wonerful FAQ
