fork springs, spacers and oil level...

Post by rhodyjoe2000 » Mon Aug 25, 2003 9:50 pm

OK... here's the scoop; I purchased LR Progressive Fork Springs for my A12 from the good folks at Happy Trails in Boise, and they arrived with pre-cut 2.75" spacers. My understanding was that spacers for these springs should be 2.00". I called the folks at Happy Trails, and while 2.00" spacers are the "norm", they prefer to supply 2.75" spacers for added pre-load on the springs. So here's my question... for 80/20 street to trail riding, what weight oil should I be using? I originally planned on 10wt but the added pre-load may warrant lighter oil. Also, due to the longer spacers, does the 190mm oil level still apply, or should I reduce the oil level to compensate for increased displacement caused by the longer spacers? Any insight would be much appreciated!! Thanks All... Rhody Joe A12 RoboThumper

My 2002 KLR is for sale. It has 1040 miles and is excellent condition. It is stock, except for a 45 rear tooth sprocket. Email for details. Thanks, Jeff Miller
