squeaking front wheel

My A17 turn signals started acting up lately and I can't figure the beast out. Synptons: when I activate the turn signal switch to either the right or left, the front turn signal, and the turn signal indicator goe on steady and the rear does not come on at all. no, it's not the rear bulbs, I have checked/replaced those. no, it's not the flasher relay, I have replaced that. If I tap on the relay when the switch is on (left or right) the circuit will break and work for one cycle (front and rear lamps light) or as long as keep tapping on the relay. it isn't the battery as it is hot and stays charged. any thoughts anyone? why would the front lamps light and not the rears? it's a mystery to me . . . .

The first thing I need to know is what was the very first thing that went wrong to have you start replacing stuff. Did you put on new/different turn signals or did something just quit working right? What started all of this? Did you change something electrical and then a problem started? MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// SYMPTOMS Symptom 1: Turn signals won't flash Symptom 2: Rear turn signals won't light up Symptom 3: Individual front turn signals stay on but won't flash Keep in mind that the turn signal flasher requires a certain amount of current on order to operate (i.e. the rest of the circuit has to be in working order). Also keep in mind that the currrent flow is from the battery (through ignition switch) to the flasher. From the flasher it goes to the turn signal switch. The turn signal switch then engages the L/F and L/R or R/F and R/R bulbs. WHAT IT ISN'T: 1: It's not the turn signal flasher because the fronts light up. 2: It's not the turn signal switch because each side (at least in the front) are turning on. There are only two outputs from the turnsignal switch - left and right. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS 1: Both rear bulbs have open filaments. Unlikely since you replaced them, but not impossible. 2: Open wiring connections in harness to rear bulbs. Also unlikey because there are two separate circuits to the rear lights. Both would have to come open for your symptoms. 3: Open ground from rear turn signals. This is the most likely. The rear turn signals individually connect to a short harness under the rear fender. It in turn connects to the main harness. On this short harness is a common ground return connection. If there is a connection problem or a broken wire here, neither rear turn signal would work. Are your tail light and license plate lights working? They use this same ground return connection as the rear turn signals. Good luck. Ron

This seems unlikely for a bike with such low miles but I had a similar problem last year. It turned out to be a small amount of play in the front wheel bearings that allowed the wheel hub to rub slightly against the spacer. Since the spacer doesn't rotate it would squeak against the hub with every revolution. New bearings solved the problem. As I said it seems unlikely that you would have bearing wear at such low mileage unless at some point your axle nut was not fully torqued and put extra strain on the bearings. Spray a small amount of WD-40 between the hub and the spacer and if the squeak goes away temporarily you have found the problem.
