it's making a funny tinking noise

Post by zrod73026 » Mon Jun 30, 2003 8:52 pm

The stethascope will scare half to death! I put a screwdriver up to my cams one day and almost fainted. Try 20-50 castrol and see what happens. Also consider your oil pump screen, not too hard. Hope you are not missing your oil pump tube! Rod, (noisy motoman badass KLR) --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "mugga112001" wrote:

A couple of known pesky noises are the stock muffler;known as "tweety" and another in the headlight mounting assembley. Be certain that the noise isn't coming from these areas. Tinking noises are generally predetonation. Which is very bad. Others have posted good advice on this topic. The KLR motor does make a bit of noise. rattles and such. Esp with loosey valves; happy tappy valves. Can be difficult to unpracticed ears to be certain of noise location. I'm thinking tweety is creeping up on you. Because you can hear it at idle and at all speeds. My limited experience I only experienced predetonation with low octane, heat, and load on motor. Plus bad jetting. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "mugga112001" wrote:

-------------------- Yes - I ran a slipstreamer 17" when I had my KLR. I liked it a bunch - I am 5'11" and it put the main airstream about one inch above my head. Loctite a necessity, of course, to secure the mounts to the handlebars. Held up off road, too, a little shaky at times, but held up. National cycle are great, ran one on my klr600. Easy to run into clearance problems, though, with the stock "mini" fairing. Good Luck, Ian Schoenleber Temecula, CA

yeah, tweety problem, had to deal with that with the trusty screwdriver and mallet. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry, gotta quit PUI...(posting under the influence) I meant the oil FILTER bypass tube. Your oil won't get filtered without it. Rod (making more coffee) --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "mugga112001" wrote:
