Anyone care to offer an opinon on Pirelli tires in general? On/off road capability, value for the money, life expectancy etc. Mike

I've had no problem cornering on the street with MT21s. Gotta pump up the pressure though for best results. The MTs will wear out somewhere between 2K and 5K miles depending on your usage. Long distance on the highway will obviously wear them out quicker than short spurts or dirty rides. dat brooklyn bum

I have a set of MT-80's on my KLR. I bought the bike with them on it, and have put on about 3000, mostly on road. The MT-80's are about 90/10 I think, so offroad they aren't to good, but for corner scrafing they're great, and are not showing much wear yet. My dealer is trying to sell me on Pirelli but I'm getting the sense from what I'm hearing here that they make good off road tires and good on road tires but not much in the way of a decent 50/50. Oh well, the search continues. Mike

Check out the Conti Twinduro TKC-80's. They've got knobs, but not as knobby as the MT-21's, and they work great on the street. __Arden

Right up front, I can only ride pavement or dirt roads - no trails or anything like that, especially not with Distanzia's installed. I was under the impression, though, that the list liked the Kenda 270's as a 50/50 tires...?? The MT21s are better street tires than the Kenda K270, better stick and better handling. They are also better offroad tires than the K270, especially in mud (though they're not a mud tire). The MT21s don't last as long as the K270 and they cost a bit more. If I had to commute on my KLR, I would use MT21s instead of the K760s I have on it now. Devon "Pople, Michael (JUS)" wrote:

I just got a set of MT-90 ST "Scorpion" tires and they look very promising. I would put them at probably 90/10 street bias, but they have enough grooves to not be total helpless off pavement. What I like about them is rounded street profile and good shoulder contact patch, the rubber is pretty soft too. It feels like a medium compound race tire. =+) I'm gonna throw them on this weekend and try them out. If I'm sheepishly inquiring about cheap bodywork and levers next week you'll know I over did it. hehehe :+p James
