federal action on counter balancer adjuster

Post by Don Bittle » Mon Jun 02, 2003 10:54 am

Does anyone know what we have to do to get the Feds involved in a recall of this dud? If this were a car part that was potentially hazardous, it would have been recalled long ago. Shouldn't Kaw be forced to bear the weight of this replacement? Just a thought. don

I was reading MCN last night and they have a column for recalls. One of this month's recalls was from Harley-Davidson and it was for a WEAK REAR VIEW MIRROR STEM!! Jeezus I can't believe that HD is recalling bikes because a mirror might fall off whereas we can't get KHI to issue a recall on a part that can kill you if it fails. Z DC A5X A12X

KHI is not going issue a recall cuz they know we are fixing it and if they did recall the KLR for the lever do you really think it would be as good as Jake's I don't think so, just pay the $50.00 and get over it. And if it's to much for you to do and you live in or around NJ let me know and I'll replace it for you FREE less parts and something for me to eat LOL.. I've gone as far up north as NH and down south as far as NC to replace a doohickey..... Thanks Jake for your fine work.. Tammy I was reading MCN last night and they have a column for recalls. One of

It puts the Buell situation in a different perspective. HD will recall bikes for things that I would consider a non-issue, without being prompted by the government. KHI seems to need a threatened lawsuit to prompt them into a recall. Devon A15 -- "It's a troublesome world, all the people who are in it, are troubled with troubles almost every minute" Dr. Seuss

If they sold a Harley for $5k I bet they wouldn't be recalling it over that. :) -Lujo

I have done the doohickeys in all three of the KLR's under my care and I think you missed my point. It's not that we've not fixed the problem, but it's that KHI can be so totally blaise about their responsibility for their shoddy workmanship. I want KHI to succeed, they make two of my favorite rides, but I am dissappointed when they clearly show no impetus to address their customers concerns and problems. Z DC A5X A12X

Z, I understand what your saying but what we fail to see is the dealers. With all the ones I have done to date none one the owners felt right letting a dealer do the work, they all said the dealer did not know anything and a doohickey or any part of the KLR that could or would fail. If they the dealers don't know about it them you can bet KHI is not going to know. KHI is not going to take the word of a post on a web site as they would if every one of there dealers call them to say we need to fix this. I've only seen one fail so far and on this KLR the owner took it to a dealer when on a trip to cheang the oil and part of the doohickey came out with the oil, they did not know what it was and the bike ran fine so they let the owner ride off, some 3k miles later it found it's way to me. So this is one more KLR with a messed up motor that a dealer will not see thanks to a bad doohickey and the fact that they don't know anything about what is going on with the lever and how they fail..
