Well I got a lot of emails bidding me adieu, thank you However a lot of people here seemed a tad misinformed about the XR650R So here is my 5 month ride review of the XR650R USES - Offroad, commuting, and Motard racing 1) eats tires, I get about 800 miles per rear tire 2) bars vibrate a bunch, gel packed gloves help a lot along with aluminum bars filled with silicone. 3) Loud compared to my Laser Pro XR 4) Gas mileage about 30 mpg 5) I HAVE HAD NO I STRESS NO OVERHEATING PROBLEMS - I think that stock XR's are jetted lean for California just like all jap bikes coming into the US. 6) Very tall bike, seat about 2 inches taller than KLR 7) Seat is more comfortable than I imagined, I have done several three/four hour straight rides on it no problem, and several all day offroad rides. Its no KLR for comfort but suprising still 8) stock tank has 60 mile range to reserve poor poor 9) stock brakes are good offroad suck on the motard track. 10) carb is great unless you drop it, pumpers are the solution 11) Very Very well engineered, after all it is a Honda, valve adjust in 30 minutes. 12) NO ELECTRIC START, I thought I was a tough guy, but at 8000 feet in MOAB with a flooded bike you can get pretty winded trying to kick over a bike ole pig like the XR650R at least it builds character. I have to say the XR650R is a fun fun bike, the aftermarket for it is starting to grow after on ly 3 years, It wheelies through third no problem has tons of suspension and has put a huge smile on my face, I will reiterate though that I will miss my KLR, I will miss her dearly, but since I got the XR650R ($4150 new out the door with reciepts to prove) she has just sat in the garage collecting dust, I found her a good home, a friend bought her, and he will ride her well I am sure. Again thank you to all of you Richard Hayward XR650R Triumph T100 XL 500 Xl 250 Xl 125 Trail 90 Trail 70

I am in St. Peters Missouri The Dealer was Chesterfield Valley Powersports They had two on the floor since 2001, they said big four stroke offroad market in the midwest is crap, people here like their harleys, crotch rockets and MXers I showed them www.cycletrader.com had at least four or five dealers selling XR650R for 3999.00 by my folks place so I was in no rush, they countered with 4150 out the door I said yes please and gave them cash. I still see cycletrader has XRs listed for great prices Richard Hayward Damn, an XR650R out the door for $4150 out the door. They are about $1200 higher where I'm at. Where are you? No I am not going to Baja kit it Missouri only requires the following for motorcycles Front headlight - no high beam required rear light - no brake lights required horn DOT Tires So I changed the tires and put a horn on and passed the state inspection. So essentiall I have a stock XR650R with plates and a horn (laughing) No sense spending 400 bucks on a kit that I will end up destroying. Richard Hayward I need to shop up there (when I get rich again). Sure have been wanting an XR, either 400 or 650 R. The KLR is just a kinda dirt capable machine. I'd like more. The Harley craze and the crotch rocket craze is in full force here also. Are you going to Baja kit yours? Criswell Richard Hayward wrote:

Right now on dyno rear wheel my XR is putting out just a hair under 60 horse, with the HRC high compression piston kit Johnny Campbell is putting out 70 horse, (cost 800) Stock the bike is 40 horse power, for 15$ in parts it puts you up to 50 - 55 horse. The 15$ in parts is a new intake and jet. The jets are 5 a piece. It is really simple go to www.xr650r.net under uncorking and voila instant 15 horse for 15 bucks lol so nice. Add an edelbrock or mikuni pumper, and different exhaust brings you to 60 on what is a 280 lbs bike. The brake lights are so small on the on the dual sport kits I would'nt trust it anyway, and on that note a woman rear ended me last month in my pick up truck and she said " I did not see you " so if they cant see a 1/2 ton pick up my 2 inch square light is not going to do much, when I stop at a light I always watch over my shoulder and stay in gear. I was supposed to be riding my bike that day but had some stuff to pick up. So lucky. Yeah I know what you are saying about the electric start, they are missing the boat there in my opinion, but I guess they are counting on more offroad use and sales, I think they are missing the fact that the guys with the money are the ones that want the electric start they should do it like Suzuki does have the e electric start model and S kickstart model and pick your poison. Richard Ron wrote: They won't let you by that easily in Texas on inspection and I'm not sure I would want to ride without a brake light on the street. However, I know a guy that swears he can get a KX 500 2 stroke registered in Texas. Man 60 horse on about 230 lbs. with 2 stroke throttle response. Woo - hooo! Talk about motard. Got any idea on the horse of a XR650R? A guy was telling me at a Honda shop they have a kit (I guess jet kit etc.) that will really help an XR650R on response and starting. Wouldn't you think Honda would put a starter on that one and the 400 to sort of stay in step with the DR's and new Kawasaki 400's? Criswell
