Can anyone here offer any feed back on the nerf bar bracket happy
trails offers to protect the radiator? It also come with footpegs
and is listed at $260 on there web site. Easy install? Durable? Does
it offer good protection?

happy trail nerf bars
Most people report easy installation of their PD nerfs. Pluses: Good
protection, look cool, and offer plenty of handholds: more is
better if you are on your ass in a puddle with your bike in your
lap. OTOH, an IMS military tank for $225 doesn't need to be
protected, itself protects the radiator and coolant tank, and adds 50
miles to your range.
Wear a belt and suspenders? Get 'em both.

happy trail nerf bars
I bought one because my friends convinced me I
would drop the bike (hasn't happened yet) because
I was a new rider. It was a 5 minute install.
The highway pegs let you move your feet to a new
position. It looks like taking the radiator cap
off might be a royal pain in the ass - but I
haven't tried this yet - one of it's bars
virtually touch the radiator cap on the top - so
I'm not sure if I'll be able to take it off with
removing the nerf bars. I'll try it tonight and
let you know.
I'll let you know what happens when I drop the
bike.

questions about the a10 and newer bikes
I'm looking at picking up a used klr650 this summer, but I'm a bit
confused from some of the research I've been doing.
It looks like ~1996 some upgrades were made to the clutch basket and
the stator/charging system. The electrical upgrade is important to me,
since I'm hoping to use some heated grips in the winter and possibly a
GPS in the summer. Another accessory or two may come along, and I'd
rather have the more powerful system.
Is it the 1996 model that starts these upgrades? I guess it's the A10?
Any advice on what to look for/ask about to protect myself when buying
would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
John
