"normal" temperature range?

Post by kelletx » Sat Apr 19, 2003 11:41 pm

Just bought a '03 KLR650-A17 a month ago. Still breaking it in at 220 miles on the odometer. Was riding the other day with ambient temp in the low 80's, stopped at a looong red light and the temp gauge needle went past the little thermometer picture in the middle of the gauge toward the HOT side. Should I be concerned? or only if it PEGS the needle on the HOT side? It will get up into the low 100's here in the Dallas area before too long and that's why I'm concerned. The needle went back down to less than 1/2 way after I got going again. Anybody else "PARANOID" about the temp gauge readings? Thanks

"normal" temperature range?

Anywhere between 1/2 and 3/4 is good. Should be 1/2 when bike is moving and will go to 3/4 when waiting at a stop light. if the needle goes all the way to the right then it's bad.

I'm also a paranoid guage watcher but unless it actually goes past the upper red line I don't worry. Of course in AK, we don't see 80 degrees very often, even in summer, especally when you live on the coast. --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "kcuf_oohay_666" wrote:

"normal" temperature range?

From The Great White North, For peace of mind I had my dealer "shoot" the reservoir at various periods as the engine warmed up. That way I knew that the temp was within specs throughout the entire range. Dave Watkins Calgary, Alberta Canada Voice: 1.403.701.5746 Fax: 1.403.266.0626 E-mail: dave@... Your photojournalistic talents help bolster your guru image. [;-)} Between you and Mark and a few other bits from the odd poster, we've got lots of KLR specific info to be thankful for. The Mule
