I'm planning my first long adventure and am going through the "what- if" list. One deals with flat tires. I have spare tubes but I've changed one out before and it wasn't fun. Will slime or fix-a-flat work in a pinch?

Tumu ran heavy duty tubes with Slime pre-installed on the Alcan rally, loads of high-speed mileage and some rough offroad with no tire-related problems. I would put in the 4mm thick super-heavy-duty tubes. They are harder to pinch when installing, and I've dented rims without getting pinch flats. And they last a long time. My own personal observation is that Slime works about 60% of the time. Once use slime, or a similar product the tire can't be patched because its slimed, so if you use slime you better carry spare tubes just in case. If you were to go to my local bike shop five years ago they were selling Slime by the bucket and now it hardly sells but fills the shelf at Harbor Freight. Most the serious dirt biking world have decided its better to patch than use Slime and I am one of those. Pat G'ville, Nv [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Slime is a Crime!!!! The only problem with Slime, is if it does work, you don't know about it, so how can gauge it's effectiveness ? I have never used the stuff myself, but have rode with two folks that do,or did. It didn't seal either hole when they got flats, plus it's a messy substance. I do agree about HD tubes mind you well worth the mola. Dave Salem Oregon
