I'd nominate Elden to be in the running. I know this is only a partial list: Early engine with: late gearbox, late model clutch, late model balancer system, installing or has installed late model cams, inner cases modified to fit late balancer idler shaft, inspection hole for balancer spring, machined surface for improved balancer idler shaft lever function, 2 timeserts (1 in insection hole, 1 for idler lever bolt). The obligatory idler lever update (Eagle). Modified damping in fork legs, hard anodized lowers. Modified stock exhaust, aftermarket handlebars, bar risers from Zen. Custom rims (f&b) laced to stock hubs. Hubs, speedo drive, and forks modified to work with tengai parts including brakes. Custom MBI seat. Custom rack, and Happy Trails side bag protectors. Custom paint. Aftermarket shift lever. Custom Ohlins shock. Some of his frames are powder coated. There's more, but I can't remember it all! No wonder he knows so much about KLR's. I did meet Mr. Carl once, doesn't he have fork extenders, too? Are those custom rims stock size, or does he run an 18" rear? Thanks CA Stu

The amazing thing about Elden's bike is that it doesn't LOOK heavily modded. Elden is fanatical about weight, so there isn't much of anything bolted onto the outside. It's mostly internal stuff... RM

The hubs & speedo drive on a Tengai are the same as the standard KLR650. By the way, I nominate Millerized for most mottled KLR. Mark

Mike, you forgot the cool flame paint job on one tank and the other with the airbrushed handguns to commemorate his days as a top competitive shooter. One of the best in the country judging from his trophy collection. Also the elevated passenger seat pad held on with velcro for Pauline along with serrated passenger footpegs for her. As I have mentioned here before, watching them ride two-up down a rocky trail is something to watch. It is hard to believe that Elden is in his late 60's and Pauline mid-70's. A truly remarkable couple. Kurt G. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I'll second that. I've been extremely fortunate to have Elden help me with my KLR, at no cost for all his time. He recently has helped me with my Eagle/Zen doohickey install and inspection hole for the balancer spring. My balancer idle lever shaft was a little oversized and the doohickey fit so perfect, like it was custom fit. Very Nice. BTW Elden does not use a fork brace on his dirt KLR or his street bike. Eldens mods are just part of his very well honed set of cycle skills. It's too bad he's not a business type, as he has decided not to go commercial. The mod I want to get next is some bar risers, being able to adjust your stem bearings without removing your bars justifies the mod IMO. Conall

I'd have to say I haven't seen a more impressive list of KLR mod than listed by Brad on Tammies site awhile back. Dam, if I had his money, I'd throw mine away! Nice work Brad The Doohickey Marauder! -- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "wannabsmooth1" wrote:
