Guys, I have to motor marshal a bicycle race tomorrow and I just started my '98 KLR and it won't idle right. Raw gas is coming out the drain tube that connects to the carb body right beside the choke cable and above the "coasting enricher". Where is this gas coming from and how can I fix it? Thanks, I will be taking off the seat and tank while I wait for your responses. I'm in a bit of a panic here! Don Sprinkle Charlotte NC A12

I think that is float bowl stuck. May be able to cure by draing the float bowl a couple of times. The allen screw at the very bottom on the right side. If not takeing the bowl off will allow better inspection and even cleaning. Check your oil to be sure the crankcase is not full of gas. Thanks to klr650 and to Alan Patton for their much needed advice. I had just come in from a 60 mile bicycle ride and wasn't thinking too clearly and really panicked when I saw gas running all over the floor of the garage. I took everything off the carb that I could get to and cleaned it up and tried it again and it still leaked so I then took the carb off the bike (not too hard, just twist and tug a while) and then cleaned the whole thing on the workbench. I then took the carb, without the floatbowl, over to the XR400 and hooked up the gas line. After a good cleaning the float needle seemed to shut off the flow of gas when the floats were raised so I put everything back together and now it works fine.
