nklr update sherlocks...

Post by Kurt Simpson » Sat Feb 15, 2003 10:10 pm

After sitting on it for 24 hours and reading lots of off-list comments from listers, I've elected to ban Jim Sherlock (and his wife for that matter). There are two rules on the list...no spamming...no personal attacks. The NKLR is a courtesy which I enforce when it is a problem. In private mails to me, Jim's wife (some people who know Jim feel these posts actually came from him) threatened me personally. In another email she threatened physical harm to Conall O'Brien. In still another note intended for the list, (but intercepted by me because he was under moderation) Jim called a lister "a loudmouth." Our list is not a place for bullying and threats. Jim has been the bane of three consecutive list administrators. Collectively, we've tried every manner of reasoning and working with him. We are sympathetic to his health issues, but there is a limit to the exceptions that can be made in this forum. RM suggested I download and export all the email addresses of current list members in case Yahoo responds to the Sherlocks' threats and dumps the list. I've done this and imported them successfully into an Access database. In a worst case scenario, we would be down for a few days and then emerge phoenix-like in another form. There are plenty of hosting services available. Kurt List admin

Good call. Mellissa Sherlock should be ashamed of herself and her senseless, vindictive diatribe. Keep up the great work. K Green

Kurt, I think you made the right decision with Sherlock. Too many times he has gotten out of control and the post from his wife (I also think it was Jim) definately had to be the last straw. As far as his Lyme disease, I feel sympathy, but too often he used this as an excuse for being a jerk. Many, if not most, people on this list have some sort of burden to carry but the rest of us would never know it because it is never brought up. The thing that makes this list so interesting is the variety of topics discussed. Some of the more interesting have had nothing to do with our KLR's and many have been about something I didn't agree with. I hope that never changes and I hope this list continues on for a long time to come. Don Detloff Fair Haven, MI, USA '00 KRR650 '00 Triumph Sprint RS '64 Yamaha Trail 80 (Ret.)

Kurt, I have only been on the list for about 3 months, so I don't know much about the history involved witht the group. I just want to say that most everyone has been very helpful and the list has saved me a lot of trial and error when it comes to working on my KLR. I think the group is outstanding and I hope it continues. Not sure what is going on with the Sherlocks and don't really want to. Just sounds like there is a bad apple in the bunch and hopefully, it won't spoil the whole group. Thanks for your time and effort. I know I appreciate you and everyone else on the list who helps KLR riders every day. Earl. A16 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I second this statement. Don't know the Sherlock saga, don't want too. -----Original Message----- From: noriolefan@... Sidetracked lately, me too. Ditto what Mark said, Kurt, & adding...... I've kept one eye on things here since buying the "wandering green whale" (that's Monahanwb's moniker by the way, I no doubt owe him a case of his favorite by now)...& in the past/present you've consistently done an outstanding job in the good judgement/moderating departments here. Here, in what's still basically the new wild west. All best. small top trunk wanted

Post by Dan Pauley » Tue Feb 18, 2003 7:48 pm

Before I go looking through JC Whitless for a new box, thought I'd ask the great KLR list. Anyone have a small top trunk rear box the want to sell off? If so, please send me a note off list. Better to pass on your spares than to let the trash man get them later next year. Thanks, Dan / \
