Let me thank everybody in advance. I'm a stocky 50 year old with a 29 inch inseam. Is the KLR 650 an impossible dream? I've been riding street/sport bikes since the early 70s. Current bike is a Suzuki SV650. I've also almost always had a 4WD truck. I grew up in western Colorado and now find myself in southern New Mexico without a 4WD and no way to get into the back country. The KLR looks like it will do everything I want. BUT, I went into my local dealer the other day and set on one. My feet don't come close to touching down. I'd be fine if I never had to stop. What do you out there suggest? Remember, I'm 50, good shape, but 50. I'm not as spry as some of you 20 year olds.

Go for it ......i'm 42 and short too .....i can barely touch my toes .......but once you get used to the height you begin to really like it ..... i find the klr is really agile and has plenty of power to overcome lots of off road excursions...i live in southeast texas but lived in carlsbad NM and i think the klr would really be a blast out there ......i worked for a kawasaki dealer in carlsbad the year the 650 first came out ...at the time i had a suzuki TC 250.....talk about a blast riding the canal roads out there ....... --- kgkeman wrote:

I also have inseam of 29. I have no problems with my A-16 one flat foot and one ball of my foot . I am also using taller street tires 130/90/17 on rear and 100/90/21 on front. Best to sit on and ride before you buy. Good luck TC
