I think these OEM tires need to go!
Yup and I think I found a new song to sing while riding the KLR in
the mud, I think Paul Simon sang it-Slip Sliden Away.
Man would I have loved to see my self going up that really mudy hill
today, has any one ever seen a KLR going sideways and 45 degrees to
the ground up a hill, damn thats kinda scary and fun at the same
time,weee.
But then I'm probly going crazy, that would be why I'm taking
advantage of this nice shinnook winds that is thawing out the ground
up here in Canmore.
And I also have one question for the KLR gurus.
Coming back from my ride from Deadmans Flats I noticed that there
was a weard sound coming from the motor, kinda sounded like when you
take and put a drop of water on a really hot pan or maybe sounds
like something is rubbing something it's not supposta, I duno.
It's an 02 with 1700klm on it and should be under warrenty still.
What do you guys think.
Or could be that I'm still going crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Oh my... you mixed OEM tires and mud ? tsk tsk tsk.....
Shame Shame on you !!!! Bad Boy !!! No soup for you !!!
Brown mud is bearable to fine, but forget black mud !!! Been there
almost wet myself already.
Except for that black swampy greasy mud, I have found the OEM tires
grip pretty much everything, sand, dirt, gravel is so-so, rocks,
pavement. And I never change air pressure, that just seems like too
much work, my terrain changes too much as I ride.
I am pretty much set on Kenda 270's are the next set, but also
looking at the Kenda 760 Trakmasters, but not sure yet if there is a
size that will fit.
I bet it was a kodak moment headed up that hill.

Thats what I thought too, had just rode a 4 wheeler through there and
it just seemed like a surface spot, knobs on the 4 wheeler did'nt
hardly even sink in all the way. Whoooooooooooo ya thats when I
found out the KLR oem's did a great job of completely pluging full
and staying that way, despite me jacking the throttle in a reaction
attempt to toss at least the rear tire free of mud, but it just spun
like a slick, what little came out plugged right back up. And of
course the front just went wherever it felt like. But after that
spot they seemed fine over the mossy covered rocks and stuff in the
trail. On my way out I took a more straight approach at the spot and
did'nt have a problem.

Well, just put another 600 kliks on the KLR today, running up and down
Vancouver Island, and picking up my KLR shop manuals. Supposedly, it was
going to be another RAIN gear torture test and bike wring out for the big
trip in January, but damned if the weather man dun forgot to make it pour.
Once the fog burned off about noon, it was absolutely GORGEOUS. Possibly the
LAST nice day we'll see here till the Monsoon season is over next March.
Sunny, but cool and crisp, with giant floppy maple leafs everywhere on the
road. And doesn't that make it interesting when you come around a wet
corner into a railroad track at an angle?
Oh yeah, my buddy with his brand new BMW Paris/Dakar 650 came along for the
ride. He paid about 10 G Canuck more for his new BMW than I did for my
used 2000 KLR with 3500 miles on it. I'll admit that his bike is a bit
smoother on the road at high speed [ gotta love that fuel injection ] but my
bike definitely has more low end "GRUNT", even with the one tooth smaller
rear sprocket. But man, do I love those heated grips that come standard
with the Bimmer. Gotta get me sum of dat.
But paying the extra $ 10,000 just to get the heated grips didn't seem like
a good deal to me, so I am buying a sailboat with my change.
Now for the question ... so far I've managed to rip the knee pad seam out of
three legs in two brand new Joe Rocket Ballistic rain pants. Not from
falling or anything, the top of the knee pad Kevlar?? reinforcement keeps
coming loose from the ribbon seam. It looks like a very loose weave there,
and the fabric just pulls apart.
Has anyone else had problems like this??
Bad batch of joe Rocket pants??? or am I the only unlucky one??
I really like the pants, and they keep giving me new ones every time, but
sooner or later this has to stop!
