whats the deal? nklr

Post by Chuck MacKarness, CQA » Mon Nov 18, 2002 11:40 am

I went to a local "New car auto show" here in Sacramento this week end. I happened to come across the only motorcycle dealer represented and stopped to chat with the BWM guy. He was showing a R1150 GS and the F650 GS along with a couple street only bikes. Interested in the F650 for my wife I ask some simple questions to loosen up the salesman. "This motor is made by Rotax right, does BMW plan on making a single for it them self's?" I was faced with a salesman that looked like I just insulted his mother! In an angry, heavy German accented voice that I could hardly hear he said: "...yeah Rotax, no plans to change it, why would BMW do something like that?" My next query was intended to poke him "Hummm... this is called a Funduro elsewhere right, why not call it "Funduro" here?" A silent glare from the sales man told me he was not pleased with the stupid name either - Just venting my "Snob Encounter" with yall! Chuck

He must have been a car salesman. The fuel injected F650 motor is made in Berlin, I think, and they don't call any of them "Funduro" any more.

Lets face it, you send your knowledgeable sales people to cycle shows, you send the dimwits to car shows. How many people go to a car show expecting to see a motorcycle, OK, well one they can afford anyway? This guy was ready for questions like "does it have electric start?", or "where do you put the gas?", etc. -Rickster
