Yet you should be. One tiny mistake could cost you your life or the lives of others. Let's say for poops and wiggles that you realize your risk taking may cause your injury or death and that you have accepted that. Fine, for you. However, did you ask the other road users if you could put them at jeopardy so you can have fun? You don't have to break the law to thoroughly enjoy motorcycling and all the benefits that riding brings. And yes, it is a bit risky so the adrenalin feels good too. That's great. Go to your closest track, pay for some track time and haul ass all you want. Or get out on the dunes or other desert areas and haul ass to your hearts content. Taking a chance with your life is OK with me if you so choose. I decide what chances I am willing to take and so on. But when your chance taking presents potential danger to my friends or family, I won't sit by quiet about it. Jim Cedar Creek, Texas

It happens all the time. Just recently a man driving an Explorer was killed when a motorcycle T-boned him in the drivers door. Last weekend the driver of a van was hospitalized when a sport bike hit the rear of his van so hard that the doors jammed shut. High speed motorcycles make spectacular crashes and can do a lot of damage.

I witnessed a Ninja 750 hit the passenger side of a Mercury Capri with his full face Shoie at an estimated 95 mph. His face went halfway through the roof horizontally. He died (of course) and I feel like the old lady would have died or been injured seriously had he hit on her side. The car was totaled. The bike and face went halfway through the car like a knife. Even a 500 -600 pound bike generates a lot of force at great speed. Criswell judjonzz wrote:

It does happen though, my step dad's head and right arm went through the windshield of a car he hit head on, and the passenger nearly lost her arm due to the glass flying around. The car was going about 20 and the biker was doing 50. His helmet saved his life, but he was wearing only a tee shirt, his arm was de-gloved, but saved. A friend was sitting at an intersection in his 70 GTO, when he was struck broadside by a biker doing well over 120, with passenger, the impact rolled the GTO. The rider died, the passenger on the bike is now a veg. The driver of the GTO was hospitalized for head injuries. Crashes suck, if you have to have one, do it alone.
