OK, the money came out of the bank on Saturday evening, which tells me they're either on the way or Tim's cashing in to leave town. Anything I need to know from PD Nerf Experienced riders/installers before they get here? Archives are no help, and internet (Google) is about the same. Advice before the "event"? DSN review was OK, just not what I expected to hear about installation. millerized (Yellow PD Nerfs on Green Durabak bike is gonna look nasty! I love it!)

While at the Four Stroke Singles National Owners Club rally in Missouri two weeks ago, I saw two KLRs with the nerfs on them, one yellow, one black, so I ask about installation. He said the only thing was that he had to drill and tap the top hole on the left side. I ask why he didn't drill all the way through and just put a bolt in. He said there is something in there that prevents doing that. Looked to me like I would want to remove the tank and fairing to make tapping easier. BTW, your bike WILL stand out in a group of KLRs. One of the screws (left top) has to come out a hole that is under the frame sticker on the right side (on a 2002 anyway), so don't be alarmed if it looks like there is no hole to come out the right side of the frame. All the holes are where Tinm expects them to be. Save some trouble, take the front fender off. I read a post that said you didn't have to , but it was frustrating the effort. Rubber mallet... you need one. I didn't install the PD Nerf, but I did just install the engine guard/hiway pegs (yellow of course) and they were a bit of a booger to get on. I imagine the PD Nerf design is similar in that it installs over the stock motor mounts on the front of the frame. VERY SNUG FIT! I ended up bending the "ears" back on the unit on both sides so I could get it started. Once I got it started, I used a rubber mallet to get it the rest of the way. The other option is to call your agent and get him to quote you on several different bikes. Progressive's site does automated quotes, which can be nice when window shopping.
