I need help with a problem that I think is fuel related. My bike was running perfect before this happend. I little twirp turn off my gas and took my fuel hose. I took off and when the carb ran out of fuel it died. I cut a piece of one of the vent hoses (thinner and not as thick) and ran it from the tank to the carb. It started up and ran for about 30 seconds then died and would not restart. Now when the bike is cold (overnight) it will start right up but after about 20 seconds it dies and will not restart. It will turn over but not fire. I have checked and I have a good spark. Hours later it will do the same thing. I am hopin that it is something simple with something stuck in the carb. Sounds like you cut the vacuum hose to the petcock. Or the vent line you cut now has a vacuum leak. If you don't have a hose going to the back side of the fuel petcock, you need one. Also find the other end of the hose you cut off and stick a screw in it to plug the vacuum leak

Need more info, Bill. Did you replace the missing hoses? Same as OEM part? Conall

Conall, The piece of tubing that I originally used as an emergency fix was the end of a piece of vent hose that I located by the shock. I cut off a six in piece. Found out who the little twirp was and actually got the original tank to carb hose back, so I am using the original there. I did not think that having the vent hose about six inches shorter would hurt anything. Bill "SandShark"

Need help on fixing my KLR-650. Started running rough and would stall. I would start it and it would run rough and then stall again when idling. If I got it on the road and opened it up it ran strong, but as soon as I let off the gas it would run rough again and die at idle. Know I can crank and crank and it just turns over without firing at all. It went from running strong to not firing in one afternoon. Checked the spark and have stong spark. Kickstand switch was jumped years ago (check it anyway and it was fine). Does not have a stong smell of gas while cranking so it is not flooding. I have a dynojet stage 2 kit installed with a SuperTrapp Queit Series. Feel that this is a Carb problems and that if I have the Carb removed and cleaned & adjusted that this should take care of the problem. Before I do that I am asking the group for suggestions and opinions. Thanks, Bill, "Sharky" 92 KLR-650 A6

Sharky, If you have a strong spark your probably right to think it is in the carb, but you might want to check the timing just in case. It sounds like you may have gotten bad gas. Empty the tank and clean the petcock, and then clean the carb. Try to catch the gas draining out of the bottom of the carb bowl to see if any crud comes out. After cleaning the carb, install a new inline fuel filter. One other thing to check is the muffler assembly, I had one come apart and clog the exhaust once, so give it a quick check. well as ive replied to some people i guess i should have worded that post a little better (thanks to all those people for their consern) ive ridden enduro in a compition called kick start back in england so im pretty familier with bikes and braking. when you have a fraction of a sec to react to something logic dont always take over. as it was i applied the brakes evenly up to the point i finally had the wheels locked (was almost the point where i was about to hit the car in front). the thing that impressed me was with the neve brake shoes brake lines and front suspention the bike remained dead straight with the wheels inline (quite usual for a bike to twist under real heavy breaking). just thought id clear that one up im new to the klr but nearly 4 years professional riding enduro and 20+ on motorcycles in general. so far im still in one piece. thanks for the replies paul A16 my new best friend
