The stock seat on my A 16 is killing me (Kawasaki should be ashamed of themselves for putting such a piece of junk on their motorcycle) & think the Corbin no dip would be a good all around choise at a reasonable price. You seem to have a lot of experience, so what do you all think? What serious problems have you had and/or what are the really good points of the Corbin? I am also thinking about the Russel Day Long, but think maybe there would be problems, due to its shape & size, when riding on dirt roads & trails where you need to get a foot down quickly. I know the Russel would be best for the road (had one on my Concours). What is the highest miles a Corbin is good for before monkey butt sets in? Thanks for any help. Pete

I have a new flat style corbin seat on my KLR and its great..as for the number of miles one can sit on it..i don't know..i don't do any long rides..just tonite was out for a ride..about 50 miles. Can tell you this tho..it does not lower your feet to the ground any..if anything, i feel that my legs are about a inch shorter with that seat...will fix that tho..my lowering links should be here sometime this week.. If you do a lot of dirt riding, I don't think the Corbin no-dip nor the Russell Day-long are good out of the box choices. But then, if you are like me, you'd get used to it. I have the Corbin "dipped" saddle and it works well on dirt as it is more narrow and lower, however it tends to slide you to the dip. And it is about par with the stock seat on the road. So, I replaced it with a Russell. But then again I don't do a lot of technical dirt riding. That said, my "dipped" saddle is for sale. Black vinyl and blue welting. $100 + Shipping. In my opinion, an aftermarket seat is mandatory if you want to tour with a KLR. I did a 1100km day with the stock seat, and it made for a miserable ride. I bought the flat Corbin, and have been very happy with it. The longest day I've done with the Corbin is 850km, and it was very comfortable. gord

Pete, I know this isn't a total solution but have you tried wearing bicycle shorts with the chamois pad? This really helps. I've noticed a big improvement in comfort doing this with my stock seat. I haven't done to many long rides yet but the longest was almost 300 miles with 90 of that off road. I learned this when I use to ride off road a lot with bikes that had thinner seats than the KLRs comparative sofa. Karl J A14

I use the Sport Tour seat and a wooden bead seat cover. I have done 1000km ( 600 + mile) days, no problem. Steve A11

The stock seat put way to much pressure on my tailbone and it became uncomfortable to ride even 50 miles at a pop. I bought the no dip Corbin and found a great improvement. As mentioned by another lister, it does make the reach to the ground a little more difficult because the seat is so much wider than stock. Also, because the seat is firmer than stock, you feel more of the bumps. I have done 400 mile days on the Corbin in comfort. It's easy to change positions which lengthens pain free saddle time. I find that if I have gear strapped to the passenger section of the seat, even the Corbin can become uncomfortable because my positions are restricted. I am happy with the purchase and would do it again.

In the mini manual that came with my bike they said to set idle between 1200-1400 rpms. Obviously you have to warm the bike up to full running temp to really check this stuff. Barnaby.
