problems to look for when buying a used xr650l

Post by Justin Carlson » Fri Aug 02, 2002 10:06 am

Sorry about the mixed messages I ment XR650L not a KLR650L that does not exist. I'm going to check out a used 1994 XR650L with 9000 miles tomorrow. Does anyone have any adivce on problem areas to look for and what to examine carefully? Thanks, Justin 212-659-8679w _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

Justin, I assume from this question that you are a new rider. Is this your first bike? Make sure it fits you. The XR is a tall bike, made for someone with a fair amount of experience. There are some nice 350-400cc bikes to be had out there. Are you buying from a dealer, or individual? A dealer should provide the name and number of the previous owner. Either way, take along someone who knows bikes, not just a friend. Compare prices to other used bikes. Check the book value, like kbb.com or edmunds.com. Whatever you do, take your time to buy. Shopping for a bike can be part of the fun of riding. Remember, once your money is spent, it stays spent. If you pay too much for a bike, your cost per smile will be higher. Allan A14
