Does anybody know what seals do I have to replace if my front fork is
leaking suspension oil? Also, can this repair be done by myself?
Thanks,

fork seals replacement

I've lost the link for the EZ fork seal replacement procedure, but it is basically Mark's fork oil replacement procedure (link below) with a little modification. Once the oil is out of your forks, replace the fork caps, remove the fork seal retaining rings (little bent-up metal rings retaining the fork seals) and inflate each fork leg until the seal pops out. I used a hand pump. If you have compressed air, all the better. It might blow a few inches up the tube or it might just have one corner pop out, but it is enough that you can get it and slide it off the stanchion tube. Be careful where you do this because oil blows out with the air when the seal pops out. It's best to wrap the fork leg in a newspaper to retain the oil. You don't want it on your brake rotor. Separate the dust cap from the seal, if it is not separated already. Slide the new seals on the tube. I recommend OEM seals. I had bad luck with aftermarket 'Leakproof' brand seals and had to just replace them with OEM seals a week later. The OEM seals were cheaper. Seat the seals using a PVC pipe T section. I think 1 1/4 inch is the right size. The PVC pipe allows you to apply even pressure all around the seal while you are seating it. Push on the dust cap and replace the metal retaining ring. Now return to Mark's fork oil procedure. This is the lazy way to do it. The best way would be to take the tubes completely apart and clean all the gunk out of the fork tubes, but this requires a special tool and more patience. -Bryan A12 Tucson http://klr6500.tripod.com/forkoil.htm> leaking suspension oil?
