klr650 questions.

Post by wildfowler_1999 » Fri Jul 26, 2002 8:36 am

I am new to the group. Thus far a lot of pundering questions I had have been answered by just reading the posts. However, I have never had a motorcycle licence, so the safety course is one thing I'll be taking. I was looking into the KLR650 for on & off road riding but, mostly road riding. I hope to purchase the motorcycle within a year or so. Is this bike too light for highway driving?? Is this bike very reliable & dependable?? It appears the bike is easy to maintain according to other members. These questions may seem redundant but, any advise or comments will be welcome. Thank You!! John

This KLR is bike #14 for me. My last one was a GoldWing Aspencade. For me, this is by far the most motorcycling fun I've ever had. My shoulders and elbows have gotten troublesome enough to keep my trips shorter than I'd like, but I just did about 1400 miles (from my home in Massachusetts) into Ohio and back, and more recently about 1200 miles to visit our son in Chesapeake, VA. A sheepskin on the Corbin saddle gave me all day riding in comfort - I NEVER got monkey butt - and the bike performed flawlessly on both trips. (With the minor exception of a blown radiator fan fuse going to Ohio.) I've had NO problems with the bike, and wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another one. There is valve maintenance, other stuff and pictures at my KLR website, including links to other KLR related websites at: http://klr6500.tripod.com/ You'd LOVE the bike! Well. John the Wild fouler, The bike is light on the highway. Too light? No. I've ridden from NYC to Chicago on all highway (no it wasn't as much fun as twisties or dirties but it was quick). You get blown around more than a Vulcan for sure but the bike can handle it if you can. Just be prepared for windblast from trucks, etc. Riding with a crosswind gets to be a natural thang after a couple hours in it. The KLR is incredibly reliable. Beat the crap out of it and it only loves you more. dat brooklyn bum --- In DSN_klr650@y..., "wildfowler_1999" wrote:

The KLR feels better for tall/large people. Short people can't touch the ground. sit on one at your dealer. Ihave rode the KLR for over 500 miles in one day at speeds up to 90mph both long straight freeways and switchback twisties. the bike handles great. Although the bike can do long range (1000+ miles) touring on the road I don't recomend it. An all street bike would be better. But for street & dirt long range touring I think the KLR is perfect. As for dirt only the bike is OK. With the 6 gallon top heavy tank, If the bike wants to go down it's going down and there is nothing you can do to stop it. --- In DSN_klr650@y..., "wildfowler_1999" wrote: I was looking into the KLR650 for on & off road riding but,
