Putting together my list of must haves to carry with me on any ride. Got to thinking about flat repair. Has anyone tried the Flat repair in a can for short term fixes ? How would this affect tire balance ? I don't immagine it's easy to replace a tube on the side of a road. How often do people get flat tires ?

balance ? If you leave the nail in the tire, it might get you from point A to point B, but never from Jo'burg to Capetown. More likely, it will allow the nail to shred the tube. Knowing this has never prevented me from trying it in the forlorn hope of avoiding a roadside tire change, The only time it ever did me any good was once when a patch developed a slow leak. The canned goo allowed the tire to hold from Belle Fourche to Sturgis, where I was able to replace the tube.

road. Not too bad, if you have: Good tire irons A spare tube Baby powder A motion Pro stand (or center stand) A good mountain bike pump A good buddy to lend a hand Some luck (or a patch kit)

I had a couple yearsago, then went twenty years without one. Now I get a couple every year.

Theres nothing wrong with using a "flat repair in a can" for an emergency. But you'd be a lot better off to carry a spare tube and flat repair kit with you. Flats do happen, and they normally take place in the worst place possible, ie miles from any where. Just think, when you get a flat tire, and you use the "flat in a can stuff" .. whats the first thing your going to do when you have the chance ? ... Change the tube, right !!!
