thanks for the heads up, but be warned, spammers are not allowed on this list so be careful of how you present your info. it needs to be klr specific. and you must put NKLR in the subject line if you have no KLR content. (that was the giveaway that you overlooked..better luck next time).I'm not saying you are a spammer but you do work for Yuasa no? How do the exact dimensions of this new battery compare to the OEM battery for the KLR650? BTW what's your warranty policy on these batteries? and did you solve the problem of internal open circuits on some earlier models that I read about in Motorcycle Consumer News? Conall

Only reason that i mentioned this to the KLR group, is because it is a KLR specific battery. It is the EXACT same dimensions. Warranty is administered by whomever you buy it directly from. And YES, i work for Yuasa. As far as "internal problems", my personal official answer is that Motorcycle Consumer news is full of crap, and we did a study to prove it. Only problems occur from lack of proper maintenance, particularly water levels. Which is what is cool about this battery, no water to check ever, therefore NORMAL death by internal failure (one of only a few ways a battery can die), is much less likely in a sealed battery. I personally would never buy another non-sealed battery, if i don't have to. Alan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I appreciated your original post, even if, as the fellow lister said, more info wouldn't have hurt. Thanks. -Lujo

I'm flattered that someone from Yuasa felt that we're important enough to let us know about this battery. My Spam-o-meter hardly even registers.

The KLR battery is a pain-in-the-ass to maintain. The OEM wet-cell battery is good only for starting the bike while you wait for your sealed battery to arrive.

I got one of these maintance free Batteries a month ago, because I was getting tired of adding water every month. So I can verify that the new Yusa do fit the KLR and haven't had any problems since I got it. Craig A15 Pruav

keep a klr in the alcan5000 for $5

Post by klrz4ever » Wed Jul 17, 2002 9:48 am

BACKGROUND: Tumu Rock from Brooklyn has invested a fair chunk of his own money into entering the Alcan5000 rally next month. This is the first year that bikes have been allowed and Tumu has the only KLR entry. There's just one problem: Tumu doesn't have a KLR anymore since it was stolen recently. I am collecting pledges to help get Tumu back in the rally. He needs another KLR, and I'm hoping the list will band together and help him get one in time for the rally. We started collecting pledges yesterday and so far folks have been quite generous. However, we've only heard from a tiny fraction of those on the list. Today I'd like to double the $300+ that was pledged yesterday, by getting a bunch of small pledges, or a few big ones. It's up to you, Listers. Let's show the world what a KLR can do, and that the people that ride them stand behind their bikes and each other. FIVE bucks isn't much, barely a six-pack these days. Please pledge what you can, and soon. WHY PLEDGES? I've organized a pledge drive to avoid a panic mailing of money around the country, and so that no money has to be returned if it becomes impossible for Tumu to do the ride. I'll collect the pledges, then once it looks like a 'go' for Tumu, I'll ask people to send it in. After that, I'll send him a check. If he needs it fast, I can go out in the back yard and dig up my secret stash of cash for him. Tumu has published a PayPal account. If you wish to go that route, please send me a note that you did. I intend to thank everyone by name in a post when Tumu has put the Beemers in their place. Jake Jakeman has also offered the use of his PayPal account, which I may take him up on for credit card users when it's time to pay up. That's the scoop from pledge central. Why do I suddenly I feel like I signed onto a public TV station? __Arden <-- rode his KLR on Ride to Work day
