klr rear brake reservoir

hello all. i just joined the group, and wanted to say hello. i've researched all dual sports and decided to buy the KLR 650. this bike is great (as you all know) and has great support groups and custom accessories. i've checked out the message boards and determined i should purchase a dual star center stand and acerbis front dish cover for my 650. here's my question: in your opinions, is there anything else i might need to add to this stock model, or is it good to go as is? i plan on using this bike to cruise to work on a sunny day (.7) miles, and take it off road with my gear to go camping and take photos all around the state of oregon... i would say 60% road and 40% trail. i humble to your seasoned advice... c

First, ride it around a bit. You'll figure out what needs improving soon enough. Two things though, disable the clutch and sidestand safety switches before they disable you. RM

I have a 2001 also and agree with RM that you should drive it around first before doing any mods. I do suggest the Pro Grips Gel Grips (714 Enduro ??). Other options are - Service Manual, Tire Irons and tube patch kit, tire Inflator, and maybe a backpack with water bladder inside. I'm guilty of doing unnessesary (sp?) mods and add- on's because I can't leave well enough alone.

If your 40% trail includes any rock-bearing earth, get a real bashplate and prolly some good handguards. Especially if you're gonna be loaded down. Acrebis no longer makes the disc protector (you don't really have a dish on your bike do you?) so that's not gonna happen. dat brooklyn bum

Welcome Carlos. While the disc protector is popular with some, I think money better spent first would be on an aluminum bash plate. Progressive front springs will stop the drop on braking, and stainless steel brake line at least for the front will improve the stop. The rest of the list includes heated grips or gloves, elect. vest, shark fin rear master cylinder protector, side luggage racks (Tim Bernard or Mac D), saddle bags, Tim Bernards highway pegs and radiator guards, bypassing the side stand safety switch, re-routing the fuses, "T"ing the carby vent tube, oh yeah, and riding. Hi, I just recently bought a 2001 KLR 650. Just have about 650 miles on it. So far I am loving it. I was curious what kind of mods you guys suggested for a stock KLR. I am also wondering where I can get a good set of side rails that support saddle bags. I do not want to pay 50$ for Kawasaki's little bar. Thanks

I am in need of a rear brake reservoir for an 89 Tengai. Should be the same part for all of the models. Anyone have one they want to part with? Also, I have a tank from the same bike that I am not using. I bought 00 parts to replace the tank and plastic. The tank has some minor damage on the left side. If you want it, it is yours.
