valve cover

Post by klryyz » Mon Jun 17, 2002 10:34 am

Thanks to those who responded to my previous questions about fork seals etc. My question now is about the valve cover. In the kawi service manual it says that you should use a non-hardening silicone sealant or "liquid gasket" when putting the valve cover and gasket on. I have had trouble locating (what else is new!) this magical substance at my local dealers. They had some stuff that looked like it might do the job, but it was more of a permanent seal that would be used instead of a gasket. I need a brand name (not the Yamaha stuff though, they don't carry that) for this stuff. Thanks in advance, John in T.O. A11

John, I use Permatex Ultra Blue RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. Most auto parts stores should have it. John --- klryyz wrote:

Hylomar. From Permatex. Don't use Permatex #2. Too hard to clean.

I used Permatex copper. Worked well for sealing; haven't had to remove it yet.

Hi Group. Just a short note to inform ya'll that I got my asking price for my A13. It went with KaWa Saddle bags, Corbin Flat seat and the stock seat, three windshields, Progressive fork springs (installed), KaWa tank bag, rear brake master cyclinder protector, and other small items. I.E. Gel grips, vibration mirror mounts, ... $3900.00 - 7,000 miles. Dropped twice in the dirt. Ride safe, Jeff, NM
