re. safety vest
I've been wearing a hi-viz vest for several years and feel safer than
not wearing one. You do get the LOOKS from other bikers and laughed
by some but you are certainly seen. I got mine from a friend who
works for Pendot, but Home Depot sell them...... Steve

Dont pay attention even for a second what others say, I took the advice of fellow forum members and ordered "spiewak" high visibility vests. They are a bit expensive, 100 bucks a peice in NYC and took 1 week to get delivered. But as soon as I put the vest on, I noticed a great deal of respect from some cars. VISIBILITY is utmost! The vests are actually worn by airport tarmak(runway) staff. You cant go wrong with that. They should be part of your permanent gear. I am designing a tank bag myself for the KLR and will have a pouch only for this stuff which always stays on the bike. For visibility I have installed strobe lights on the bike for the night travel, connected to the brakes only. Goodluck! kfali> by some but you are certainly seen. What model of vest did you buy? How is it better than what other listers have recommended? Can you give specifics as to why no one else's opinion counts here but yours?> advice of fellow forum members and ordered "spiewak" high visibility > vests. Always good to know that someone knows better than the rest of us on the list. Z DC P.S. All joking aside, if you're going to belittle everyone's opinions and advice on the list, at least give reason and proof for it. That's all I would ask. I'll shut up now before I get kicked off the list.> kfali

In this instance I think "what others say" means the people making fun
of those who ride in a safety vest, not the people offering advice on
the list.
I had to read his post twice, my first impression was the same as yours.

Urk. Perhaps you're right. My apologies kfali. It's been a rough 24
hours and I am definitely irascible. After being hit by a car yesterday,
I was woken up this morning at 3am by (what I think were) a bunch of
kids trying to hack the lock off my Vespa with a sledgehammer or axe.
The lock held. I don't really know what I would have done if they'd
still been outside working on it when I got out there with crowbar in
hand. Can't own a pistol in DC, or I would have my Glock 21 with me.
Need to get the 38" solid ash warmup bat I made in high school woodshop
from my parents house...
Not to mention I got my estimate back on my KLR motor yesterday...
$1700!! F***

re. safety vest
My first post got messed up hence have to write another one.
"Others"= people who mock , laugh or point at guys with saftey vests
should be ignored, that what I meant.
Advice on this forum is A1.
Yo scare people from working on ur locks with devices
like "sledgehammers" one can carry a Ice Hook , which is legal and
has a great mental impression on sledgehammerers.
(just an advice)
no intention of hurting anyone.
Hope u feel better soon and I hear ya on the 1700 price tag>

Anytime you get smacked by a car and CAN complain about it is reason to smile
long and hard. I got drilled Tuesday night and am smiling like a fox in the
henhouse. Lucky, very lucky.

I think it'll be happier if you run it at 60. My daughter rides one and while it'll do 65 ok it is a light bike and 60 seems to be enough for a steady run. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
