I visited a local Bike shop today and found a notice on their
bulliten board concerning a Off Road area in Lavon TX. This Dirt bike
park is about 10 miles from my home and has been a great place for
the family to ride the 4-wheeler. The park has been open sence the
early 70s. It is located in a low flood area so most development is
out. It is owned and maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers, so is
public land. It is located ajacent to Lavon lake, just below the dam.
Well the souranding area has been broken up into 1 acre lots and
being developed with high $$ homes. Well the snobs moving in have
begun complaing about the noise.
Now the park is only open from 9am till 5:50pm with no access after
hours. Also the park was there when befor the homes were built and
the present owners knew it was there. This is a country area, well
outside the city limits. It is located in the small town of Lavon
with no industry and a population of >5000 and mostly a farm
community. All except the area now being developed.
Well the new home owners have gone to the city and the city is
complaing to the US Corps of Engineers office. The complaint relates
to the few Jerks that can not stay in the park. The occasionaly ride
on the street or in restricted areas.
In all the times I have been there I have never seen this, but this
is the complaint.
The ACOE is asking all that feel this park should remain as is to
write to the Lake Manager with their reasons. The kicker is this was
only released to a very few shops in the area and no info is posted
at the park, so almost no riders aew aware of the issue.
The final kicker is the town also is requesting to lease this public
land for developing into a Golf Course.
Sounds right to me. Close a public area, open to all and create a
Golf Course where the public may or may not be allowed, and if so
will be required to pay for the use of the public land.
If any on this list, in or out of the area whish to write to the Lake
Manager here is his contact info.

And this not always the way it is? Self-centred arseholes with no consideration for long-term consequences to other land-users inevitably cause our riding areas to be closed. If we could rid ourselves of those jerks, the world would be a happier place... but, of course, we can't. Sympathies, man. How sucky.> The complaint relates > to the few Jerks that can not stay in the park. The occasionaly ride > on the street or in restricted areas.

Golf is for fat squids. If they do what you say, let's get all the dirt
bikers together after a hard rain and ..... sample riding on a golf course
(something I have always wanted to do).

Lujo, I was mistaken. It's the stock Dunlop K750. I thought the KLR came stock with Trailwings. It's worn in the center some, but hopefully I have another 1-2k miles of tread life to go. Ed A15> they last longer than 1.5k miles! > > -Lujo > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
