I have never changed one, but from past post it depends on your year.
I think the early KLR's are easier

Not too hard at all. I just changed mine yesterday. The nut that holds it on is very tight. In fact I couldn't break it with a 1/2 inch drive cheater bar and had to resort to an impact wrench. I wonder if maybe they didn't hammer that baby on extra tight at the factory or something. I can't remember what size socket it was. I had a set of 4 big metric sockets that I had picked up at Walmart a couple of years ago and one of them fit. Anyhow, after I got the nut off I loosened the chain a bunch and rolled it off the back sprocket which gave me enough slack to slide the front sprocket off the splines and put the new one on. I tightened the new one with my breaker bar as I plan to change it back to a 14 tooth when I get to Moab and I don't think my CO2 cartridges will run an impact wrench! Haven't had time to put any miles on the 16 tooth yet so can't say how I'll like it. Have seen both pro's and con's on the list, but hey, a guy has to try it himself to find out. George New KLR owner and loving it!! [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]> How hard of an install is this 16t sprocket?

Dany Marquis, Contact me off list. I've a friend in Montreal who likes
thumpers and works out of his garage. Good guy and sharp mechanic so
long as you are not alergic to cats or beer pharts.
