carb gremlins__help!

Post by timan7725 » Sat Apr 20, 2002 3:32 pm

Need some help from the list, the KLR is acting like its "loading up" when I'm at idle, that is is seems to flood. I suspect this because now when I have to sit at idle I turn the pecock to off and it doesn't flood and stall. If I leave it on its floods and stalls. But, going down the freeway today it started acting like it was fuel starved cutting out and what not, if I drop my speed down below 50 or so it ran fine. I pulled the bottom off the carb and the float appeared fine, free and easy without any binding cleaned all I could get to with the carb cleaner. Can anyone give me some suggestions if what to try next? Thanks. Timan A7

Maybe a pluged vent hole or the petcock diaphram is broken. I would guess its the float or needle/seat. but you already checked that.

Timan: No carb expert here, but a few clarifying questions: Have you checked the float level? Check out Redondo Ron's excellent carb page at: http://members.aol.com/roundr1/CVK40.html Vacuum line to carb has no kinks/cracks and fuel flows if you suck on the carb end of the line? Are you using an inline fuel filter? Some listers report problems with using them. Did the "fuel starvation" you experienced on the highway occur at a steady throttle setting? Some listers have experienced problems with the stock jetting at steady throttle settings (especially on long inclines during hot days) I have had this happen. Was it raining when you experienced the "fuel starvation" if so, perform the T-mod. John --- timan7725 wrote:

Does anyone know how many Tengai's were sold in North America? What's left? I'm in Ontario, Canada. I bought my '90 in mid Febuary with under 20000km. In March I joined this group, looked in the photos, there it was my Tengai, the exact bike. What a surprise!!!. The bike has since been restored by me, and looks better then ever. Cool group, lots of good info and pics. P.S. Thanks Tim! for selling it.. Regards, Sparky :)
