Hi everyone -- I just joined the list. I've got a 2000 KLR that I bought last year with 3200km for $3700 Canadian. I use it mostly for forestry road touring, so I added halogen auxiliary lights, a Moose skid plate, Givi top case, Corbin seat and a RAM mount for my Garmin Vista GPS. (You can't get THAT lost on roads, but I had a GPS already for sea kayaking and backcountry hiking, so I thought I'd put it on the bike too.) Future mods include Progressive Springs, Happy Trails rad guards, saddlebag protector and some tougher bolts for the subframe. My stock seat is on EBay if anyone wants to bid it up. You've got less than an hour. BTW - can someone tell me why KLR's list at $5000 US in America, and $5500 Canadian (less than $3700 US) up here in Canada? I think our American friends are getting ripped off... I'll be heading up the Dempster highway to Inuvik at the end of June. I've been as far as the Arctic Circle before in `98. That was on a GS1100. Not the BMW - the old Suzuki. I'm also planning on doing the North Canol road in late August. In between we're building a raft and floating from Whitehorse to Dawson City (700km), which is a trip I did two years ago as well. Should be fun. Is there an FAQ site for newbie KLR questions? I don't want to waste everyone's time by asking the same questions that have been asked over and over. Specifically, I'm looking for info on fitting a KLX kickstarter. Any help would be appreciated. In case anyone cares: I've been riding for about 16 years. My background is all street - years of roadracing and lots of touring. I'm loving my KLR because I can ride on remote trails or logging roads and camp in pretty out of the way places. I have worked in the bike industry for about ten years, and my experience includes everything from working the accessory counter at the local dealership (www.blackfootmotosports.com) to working in LA as Associate Editor of Motorcycle Online. I wonder how difficult it would be to import a KLR purchased in Canada into the US ? The shop where I work (www.blackfootmotosports.com) ships quite a few bikes to the US for this reason. Most bikes are quite a bit cheaper here. Although you have to add our federal tax (GST) of 7%. A good reason to buy from an Alberta dealership is because we are the only province without a provincial tax, which is usually another 7% in most provinces. (friggin' taxes up here!!). I know you'd have to swap the speedo to get it registered. (km/h vs mph). Blackfoot might be able to provide more info. (1-800-665-6735). I'm looking at buying a 2002 klr 650. I went to the local Montreal dealer this weekend and he gave a price of 5700 + taxes. I'm glad you posted that comment because i could not find the msrp for canada. What would be a good deal for a new klr in Canada?

They list at $5500, or $3600 US. Add to that PDI and 7% federal tax. Plus provincial tax if you're in QC. I know we sell around 12-15 a year, so I don't think they flex too much on the price with that kind of traffic. They sell as many as they can get their hands on. Very clean used ones usually sell for $4200-$4500. I was laughing to get mine for $3700. BTW - they do test rides at my shop, but it's the only dealership that I've worked at that can afford to because they're so big. Most shops might only sell a couple of each model a year - why would they want to make one a demo and lose all that money? There's really not all that much mark-up on a new bike anyway. gord
