morning ride - be safe !

Post by dehager2000 » Fri Mar 08, 2002 10:26 am

I almost got it this morning on my ride to work. Sitting at an intersection (red light) waiting to turn left a couple of young kids in a Beretta tried to make a left from the cross street. The kids either tried to zip through or didn't see the oncoming Chevette. This is a single lane road every one does 60mph on and the Chevette hit the rear quarter-panel of the Beretta and spun it around 2 1/2 times, missing me by inches. I was also showered by glass and almost decapitated by the large plastic bumper shroud. The only words that went through my mind were "OH F%#@" and it was over before I finished the word "OH". There was nothing I could have done. What saved me was the MSF course I took years ago. The thoughts still fresh in my mind and the fact that I was well behind the white stop line at the intersection. Being street smart, being safe. You don't need to be moving to find the next cage idiot. Dana Nazareth, PA

Another tidbit from the MSF class - when you wait at an intersection, keep it in 1st and hold the clutch in. Might make for some cramps but you're ready to bolt if you need to. Guy KLR650 A13

John, Take it from me, you won't believe the difference in comfort level when you get your Mayer saddle broken in. Mine has over 5,000 miles on it, and just keeps getting better! The most dramatic change in comfort seemed to occur after about 800 to 900 miles. Congrats on the new seat, I know you will enjoy it, Rocky Mayer does great work. Marshall in Slidell, La 95 KLXC3
