Heavier oils seem to cause more stickage. 10w-40 should help.>mine did that this morning and jumped forward and killed, after restart >was fine. it does that sometimes. Just changed oil, now using quaker >10-40 would type of oil help this?
what did you learn from your nklr yesterday?

My bike will do that when cold, UNLESS, I pull in the clutch, and rev the
motor a few times first. That seems to do the trick, and it goes into first
with no problem.

Thanks for all the advice. I've got 20-50 in it right now, which might be part of the problem, and also, being winter, only riding once every 3 weeks or so. My dealer did say that this was not uncommon and did suggest revving the engine to break apart the clutch plates. mk> > > > Any suggestions on the clutch problem??? > > > > misha

That's wierd, I never had this problem until just
yesterday (A16 2300miles). I just had an oil change a
week ago so it has to be the type of oil.
The oil listed on the reciept is Castrol 10W40. This
is my second oil change and the first one was with
Castrol ACTVO 10W40 and I had no problems similar to
what you mentioned after that one. Don't know if the
ACTVO designation means anything or not.

Before KLR; with Road Multi's, best results with dedicated M/C oil AS A
MINIMUM. KLR; best results with a synthetic blend, Golden Spectro or Honda
HP4. A2 bought new @54,000 miles and counting. Might use 1 Qt per change
@5000 mile intervals. Go to my web page at:

However.......Many consider idling, especially when the engine is cold, to be bad, bad, very gad for the motor. The late Gordon Jennings led a verbal crusade on this topic in his tech columns. Something about incomplete combustion. He never tired of preaching that you should start the bike and ride off as soon as possible. Bogdan> ---------- > . I'm talking about a few minutes, even in the coldest weather. It's
modern liquid cooled motor, assuming you have the idle mixture properly
set, it should sit and idle happily until it runs out of gas.Having your
idle mixture screw turned out 3 turns would likely foul your plug if you
let the bike sit and idle.
Especially if the bike has been sitting for a couple of days, if you
start it and ride away seconds later, the oil will probably reach your
cam bearings when you're halfway down the block.

PS- I am not familiar with Gordon Jennings. Could you tell me where I
can find some of his columns archived?

The last outfit he wrote for was Motorcyclist. The only reason I subscribed to that rag. They may have his stuff on their site. Don't know I never visit it. Bogdan> Devon > > PS- I am not familiar with Gordon Jennings. Could you tell me where I > can find some of his columns archived? > > >

Anybody that recommends starting a cold internal combustion engine
and just riding it without allowing it to warm up is somebody I care
not to read anything from.
Sorry Just my $.03 worth, yes I know a "whole" $.03 on this one.

working them.

I'm with you on warm ups. I can understand the argument about EXCESSIVE
idle times, but like a lot in life, all things including idle time, in
moderation.
I let the KLX warm till it runs without the enricher engaged.
