ANY YOU GUYS EVER MODIFY THE STOCK KLR 650 MUFFLER. YOULL NOTICE AND
INDENTION ALL AROUND THE OPENING ON THE REAR OF THE MUFFLER WHERE THE
EXHAUST EXITS. STOCK OPENING IS SMALL. COULD WE OPEN IT UP TO THE
SIZE OF THE INDENTION AND INSERT A BIGGER PIPE IN ITS PLACE AND THEN
RE WELD. IVE RIDDEN THE EURO VERSION OF THESE BIKES,DO NOT RECALL THE
SMALL OPEN LIKE WE HAVE HERE STATESIDE. PERHAPS JUST ANOTHER WAY TO
MEET EPA STANDARDS. THANKS STEVE

There are also other mod's to perform while you have it off the bike...
Not all are %100 Forestry approved though!

klr 650 muffler
I opened up my muffler and knocked out the bullet shaped gizmo with the
fins around it. Then I cut out the old muffler tip and rolled up a new one
out of stainless. It is just slightly smaller that the perforated liner in
the center section, about 1 5/8"X 5" long. I welded it into the end cap,
then welded the whole mess back together. Incredible, horrendous noise with
6" red flame out the back. Then I cut the front part back apart and made a
stainless baffle that I put right in the "exhaust blast" where the front
pipe is aimed at the silencer. I think it sounds good. It sorta echoes
when you let off the throttle, but it isn't objectionably loud in my
opinion. It gave a noticeable increase in power. I did not rejet. I have
run it WFO on the interstate for prolonged periods without surging or
overheating. And it don't tweet...... James in SC.

Color me very dubious (-: If the aftermarket people barely get a couple horsepower with noise I doubt this would have added much. And without a re-jet their isn't much more fuel being burned so where would the popwer come from? PLus you probably lost any spark arresting. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send your FREE holiday greetings online! http://greetings.yahoo.com> did not rejet.

2002 overheating problem
This message is in response to note 21, issue 2093
"21. 02 KLR hot first ride update
From: "stutzman44610" "
I sent the following message below to the
"Stutzman" at the above email address
he provided and it was returned to me. The error
message said that your mailbox
was full, over quota. Just thought you would like
to know Stutzman.
Stutzman,
Saw your messgae on the
DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com.
I just bought a 2002 KLR 650 as well. I haven't
taken delivery of it yet.
Thanks for the heads up on the potential
overheating problem. Sounds
the ordeal was really a blessing in
disguise...free helmet, not bad!
I am thinking about having the tank painted all
green. The silver tank is
a little too busy for me.
Take it easy and let me know what else you are
finding out about the bike.
