I have done the Slickrock trail a couple of times on a Honda XR250L, and had no particular problems. I personally would NOT do it on my KLR. IMO the KLR is geared too high, is too heavy and too tall. Of course if you have yours geared way down, and can EASILY touch ground you might be able to do it. There is a lot of sidehill riding and short but steep climbs and descents. Since this is in Fred's backyard, hopefully he will have more advice. HTH Tom

Full Moon rides riding double on the Slickrock trail is the BEST! 8-) YMMV A 16T on a KLR on Slickrock wouldn't be fun. A 14T would be better. A GasGas would even be mo betta...... http://www.ut.blm.gov/recsite/sand.html Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com

nklr motorcycle license

Mr. Clarke, you are almost correct, and I stand corrected. If we're going to split hairs, lane "sharing" _is_ explicitly legal in California, lane "splitting" is explicitly illegal. As a resident of this lovely state, I do it in full knowledge that I am not violating any laws. 1) The 1998 Motorcycle Driver Supplement of the California DMV states the following on Page 22: Sharing Lanes: Sharing lanes is not illegal in California. And unless I am retarded, that means lane sharing is legal, n'est ce pas? 2) California does make "lane splitting", occupying two lanes by riding the line between them, illegal, I believe in CVC 21658(a): A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from the lane until such movement can be made with reasonable safety. That means it is against the law, and therefore illegal, si? CA Stu ;-) -----Original Message----- Stu, You are nearly correct. According to all the written material I have seen on lane splitting, lane splitting is not explicitly legal in California. However, lane splitting is not explicitly illegal in California. Lane splitting is tolerated by California law enforcement officials. Lane splitting is explicitly illegal in most other states. In states other than California where lane splitting is not explicitly illegal, it is not tolerated (so far as I know). -- Marc Illsley Clarke, Kawasaki KLR650 A12, Loveland, Colorado, USA Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 09:05:37 -0800 From: "Stuart Mumford" Subject: Re: NKLR Motorcycle License Au contraire, mon ami. Lane splitting is legal in California. On any Friday evening, on my whopping 11 mile commute, I pass a few hundred cars minimum. If there's an accident, I bet I pass a couple of thousand...
