nklr: cycloactive front fender bag

Post by don.smith@gems5.gov.bc.ca » Wed Oct 24, 2001 2:55 pm

A while back someone asked about storage ideas. The Cycloactive front fender bag to store a spare tube and tire irons looks good. I have some concern about it inducing front end vibration or shimmy. Has anyone tried this bag - comments? Don

I got one last year, and all the bolts (4) of the front fender came lose. I almost hit the ground when the rear of the fender got in to the radiator and the protection mesh. But when I relocate the fender bag to the space over the headlight and the windshield everything is fine. I have done some serious off-road and it is holding great. Inside the bag I have: 1 front tube, 2 tire irons on cycloactive neoprene holder and 4 air canisters on neoprene holder. In overall I recommend this bag, but not to be use in the fender, because in the KLR it has to travel almost in the middle of the fender and it is to heavy. I specially like the neoprene holders. Luis- I have had the opposite experience with my CycoActive fender bag, it sticks like glue. I am, though, running an Acerbis Yamaha WRF front fender on my KLR as it is much stiffer and shaped better than the stock KLR fender (the plastic is about twice as thick as the KLR fender is, $20 well spent, wish I had bought the blue fender though...) I have found that the fender mounting bolts *need* to lock-tite'd or else they'll come loose even without a fender bag hopping around on top of it. I have the large bag (I think, it is a rebadged Moose brand made by CA) that I have a spare Cheng-Shin front tube, three 9" irons, patch kit and cansister of talcum. It is heavy and off-roading two weeks ago, it was making my front fender jump around so much that I thought I had lost bolts from it. It freaked Tumu out when he rode my bike because in the rough stuff the fender must have had about 12" of deflection with the bag on it. It never came loose though and it kept me from stuffing another thing into my backpack, so I was pleased with it. YMMV, of course. ------------------ Zack Banana Republic of Washington, DC KLR650X A5/C2 "Buster" | KLR650A2 | ZG1000A1 | KZ440A2 | 1966 Vespa 125 COG #4664 DCDS #1

I am using the stock front fender and the fender bag. The fender bounces around on rough stuff a little more, but no problems on the highway. I did an 80mi D/S ride a couple of weeks back including miles and miles of whoops, and didn't have a problem with the fender bolts loosening. I only keep a tube in mine, and I have the bag as far up the fender as possible, it rubs slightly on the bottom of the fairing. I have jumped the bike with this mounted, and also taken it up to 105 on the highway. I have not had any problems. Devon A15 don.smith@... wrote:
