(yank my) moron chain

I like a subject you can yank (get it, yank my chain, hehehe, okay, maybe not sooo funny but oh well...) Yo Sharky, If you're staying with the stock gearing, just count your links. Always add a few links on (I add five) then I adjust (break the chain) as I install it. This is especially good if you plan on changing gearing. Just keep adding length when you buy your chain. If you go to the mail-order whores ( I mean warehouses), they'll ask you how many links you want, if you go to a dealer, you can buy it complete in a box and break it yourself, not difficult, I can give you instructions on how to do it with tools you already have in your garage, or you can buy a chain breaker, which is a good addition to any tool box anyway. At least this way, you can adjust it for a custom length, maybe even hitting a compromise size for both sets of sprokets. As for master links vs unbroken chain, I opt for the master link. Once again, adjustability. Never had a problem with the chain breaking or losing a link in 25 years of riding. Just gotta do it correctly, especially making sure you put the lock spring on in the right direction. But if you like the idea of yanking your swingarm off to change you chain, you can go that way if you want to. While you're at it, spend the extra 3 bucks or so and buy one or two extra master links for your tool kit. You may never need them, but someone you ride with may. Give me a holler if you need some install tips, I always gots some good ones, just ask Thunderdog... PS: You still want those shirts from the Devil's Creek and Trail of Tears rides? Swampy

Yo Sharkey, I've been waiting for a chance to disagree with the Swamp Thing. Go for a real chain with a riveted link. List old timers may remember my misadventure with a series of lock springs down in Mexico. They kept falling off. I'm not sure a lock spring is of any use on a pressed master link but still, it made me nervous. Drove up to Moab; Fred was kind enough to install and rivet a link. Ah, blessed peace of mind. As to yanking your swingarm off.....My chains last around 20k miles so a unitrac lube is due anyway. Hate to deny you the fun of carrying around those extra master links. Swampy pierces his body with them so at least for him they serve some purpose. Bogdan

Does anybody know why the White Brothers Performance Carb Kit will not work on a 1987 or 1988 KLR650??? Kelly KLR650-A1 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
