klr for desert trail riding?

Post by jim7j7@yahoo.com » Sun Oct 21, 2001 3:24 pm

Hello, I'm selling my Suzuki GS1100E in favor of a bike that I can explore the desert with. I live in the middle of the Mojave Desert here in S. California. I'll be using it about 50/50 street/desert. I commute about 20 mi/day. No trees off-road, just lots of narrow trails and hills, and sand. I like what I see in the KLR650. Does anyone else use their bike in the desert? What do you think about using a KLR in this enviornment? Is this a good way to go or is there a better bike for my purpose? Thanks for your help. Jim

Hey Jim, Depends on what you mean by in the desert. The Honda XR650 and the KLX650 are more dirt oriented, the KLR more street oriented. Just depends on what you want to do. BTW, how what year is the GS and how much for it? Ed

I have the fat-centered Pro Gel dual sport gel grips on my KLR. They are substantially fatter everywhere than the stock rubber grips. -- Marc Illsley Clarke, Kawasaki KLR650 A12, Loveland, Colorado, USA ----Original Message-----

I love mine on the power line roads here in Az. The stock tires suck in sand though, I'll be changing mine soon. great for desert riding. Ryan Phoenix
