For those of you who have lowered your KLR's. What did you do
about shortening the sidestand? Does someone make shorter
sidestands?

Sure, check out Dual Star. That's where I got mine. Later.

I took off the original, brought it to a welder and had him
circumsize it, I think it cost about $10. Take a saw, cut out about 1
inch of material and have him weld the 2 peices back together, simple

That someone could be you with a hack saw; you also need a car to take the pieces of stand to a welder if you don't have that skill. Bogdan> For those of you who have lowered your KLR's. What did you do > about shortening the sidestand? Does someone make shorter > sidestands? > > Steve > >

Steve, I cut the stand, insert PVC pipe and use two sheet metal screws to hold together. This makes it easy to change back to stock.

I used a 2 x 4 as a guide and drew a line around the bottom, cut on the line
and welded on a small flat plate.

West:
You may misunderstand what is happening when you loosen the bolt. When you
loosen it (approx one turn), you allow a very small spring to pull an
adjustment lever which applies what seems to me, to be very little tension
to the chain. It works though, and generally quiets things up inside the
motor.
By the way, I think adjustment probably only needs to be done every 5000 mi
or so.
