I just purchased a 1985 KL600 with 4.5k miles, very nice shape but
not running, owner suspects a slipped timing chain. The guy is a
friend of mine, personally I doubt it's a timing chain problem with
that few miles on it.
Anyway...
Just wanted to tap the wealth of KLR knowledge and ask a few
questions...
What are the major differences between the 85/86 KL's and the later
KLR's? Excepting displacement of course.
Any advice, information, tips, comments, etc are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It would be pretty unlucky to lose the tensioner at such a low distance. What makes the owner suspect the timing? Checking the timing is not real hard. I suggest that you buy the factory manuals.
