duro tire install

Post by rcoker2882@yahoo.com » Mon Sep 03, 2001 8:42 pm

I'd guess you bent the lever taking the old tire off but anyway this is a good time to tell how I have installed motorcycle tires since the early '70's. The best way to install a tire is to keep it pressed down into the narrowest part of the rim on one side and work the other side around the rim by hitting the bead the direction you need it to go with a heavy rubber hammer. The kind of hammer that has replaceable heads such as SnapOn sells works best. It takes a little coordination but it works. I used to work as a motorcycle mech. a long time ago and that's how we always did it. Only used the tire irons to take off the tire. Never pinched any tubes that way.
