rear brake question

Great list. I just picked up an A15 with 600mi on it that was advertised here. Last bike was a new '72 Norton Commando and wouldn't you know that I threw my old helmet away about 6 months ago while cleaning out the garage. I've been in the T-shirt buisiness for the past 26 years and while reasurching bike art for Port Dover Fri. 13th for customers I ran across a picture of a Manx norton and was bitten by the bike bug bad. Meanwhile my deer hunting buddy is bugging me to get a quad so that he does't have to haul my ass into his hunt camp. I just couldn't justify the quad as I had no other use for it other than the 1 week hunt trip each year. While looking at the Thumper page I happen accross dual sport thumpers and well now I've got one of the best. Now back to the helmet question. Can anyone recomend a helmet that I can put on without having to take my glasses on and off .Thanx Reid Bannister, ON

Reid, Welcome to the list. That old helmet needed to be thrown out. I've read that the life of a helmet is only about 5 years and after that it begins to lose its effectiveness. I also wear glasses and need to remove them when putting on or taking off the helmet. I don't think it's that big of a deal. I have been using a Nolan flip-face helmet that I have been happy with. Recently, I have added an Arai Quantum/f. Are you near Port Dover? I'm in Michigan about 25 miles from the crossing at Port Huron & Sarnia. I do most of my riding in Canada. You have better roads for riding and a lot less cars. Many of my rides are to Port Stanley for a perch dinner at Kelly's Boardwalk. I was at Port Dover on July 13. I heard an estimate of 50,000 bikers. I was heading over there last Saturday to check out the town for a perch dinner, but when I got to Shedden on 3, my bike automatically made the turn to Port Stanley. I go over there so often, it's like riding a horse that already knows the trail ... you just sit back and go along for the ride. Do you still have the Norton? I think that if you don't want to have to take your glasses on and off, your only choices would be a 3/4 helmet or a flip-face. For the 3/4, any Snell approved helmet would be fine; look for vents and, of course, fit. I think I've read that Gino, (on this list), has a Nolan flip-face and would have more input on them... Yep, I have one...bought it in 97 or 98. Great helmet for the money. Be sure to get the anti fog insert that snaps into the standard face shield. Works super. Gino

Even in perfect shape, systems that have a piston pushing only on one side, and depend on the caliper sliding over, pulling the other pad into contact with the disc, tend to wear the caliper side pad much faster. This is normal, sort of like knowing that you are going to wear out a rear tire much faster than the front, despite them covering the same number of miles. My .02 FFDennis
