q from the fng-stainless steel brake lines

Post by vespadaddy@hotmail.com » Mon Aug 27, 2001 11:47 am

Hello. I just picked up a 93 KLR 650 this weekend. I noticed 2 things: #1 It has poor brakes compared to the 2001 GSX-R1000 I wrecked last month. #2 The front brake line is the original OEM unit. Mushy! I trolled through the archives last night looking for the best source of Stainless Steel brake lines (Covered), and folks seemed to suggest that some guy named Fred was the man to see. Fred's website was down. So, I pose the question- Is Fred still selling brake lines? Who/what/where is the best source for a new front brake line? Thanks! Dan

Dan- Definitely pick up a Russell or Fastline SS line. If you have the option get a coated line as the straight SS braided cover likes to chew through the brake line rubber mounts. Should cost you about $50 for the front if I remember right. Yes Fred does carry them, http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com Welcome to the loony bin. ------------------ Zack Banana Republic of Washington, DC KLR650A5 "Buster" | KLR650A2 | ZG1000A1 | KZ440A2 | KX125G1 | 1966 Vespa 125 COG #4664

You should get some different pads as well, I was used to rock hard instant bite brakes, when I got my 01, I had to double check to make sure there wasn't a drum brake up front! The steel line helps feel considerably, but there is a lack of bite with the stock pads. -- In DSN_klr650@y..., vespadaddy@h... wrote:
