93 klr 650

Post by Carlos A Perez » Tue Aug 14, 2001 3:38 pm

hello all, i'm one of those lurking around pulling together a plethera of KLR (and NKLR info) i found this in our local paper:1993 KAWASAKI KLR 650 Dual Sport. Accessories included. $2350 a called the guy and it's got 33k+ miles on it, tank bag, side bags, updated shocks, two sets of wheels (highway and offroad), never been out of the country, and never been dumped... i'm going to check it out today, and get a better idea... i had a deposit on a 2001 650, but this just showed up, and it's 2k less... is it a good deal? carlos off2bend@... Too many miles for that price. You can find a lower mileage one of the same vintage for way less. Mark B2 A2 A3

I paid $2900 for a '98 with 3600 miles on it. I have heard that the balancer chain and sprocket should be replaced at 30000 miles. If he hasn't done this, you could be in for a $600-$1000 additional expense. -Bryan

I'd offer 1800 or less. 33k is alot of miles. you will be nickel and diming the thing with little things. Rotors, Brake Pads, Cables, Chain and sprockets, fluid changes. No warrenty whatsoever. Pre 94 glitches. I should know because I have a 93 also and paid 1600. It had only 8K on it. No problems yet except clutch cable. But the extras are nice. But there's always deals around. I'd stay with the new one and build your own machine the way you like it and you will know what goes wrong with it and not have to worry about fixing it. It will be under warrenty. Plus you will grow with the bike and learn. Sucks learning on an old bike that you have to buy parts for. All the while it's sitting there broke!!! Van

Yes. The C-series is also the current Euro version AFAIK.

Mostly. There were some changes to the clutch and front sprocket around 1996.

So would I if were in that position, but I still have a dependent 600B1 among the other vehicles.

Age does weary them, if a KLR650A has been used the way it was supposed to be. At least the bikes are simple enough to fix, and I suspect a C-series motor would bolt straight in to an A-series chassis if required.

Sounds like you got it right. Mister_T Melbourne Australia

the thing with little things. Rotors, Brake Pads, Cables, Chain and sprockets, fluid changes... ok, i'm foregoing the 93 for the 87 klr 650 w/ 17000 miles for $1800... i saw the 87 'kl' without the r. 17000 miles. the guys says it fell off his trialer once... i'll try my best to desribe it: it starts. handlebar kinda rusty. grips both shredded at each end. slight rust on the frame under the original bash plate. tank is somewhat rusty from obvious knicks and is smashed in on the right side. needs new tires. sounds like a klr... there's a bunch of 'grime' around the motor shell. purchased in ca.... but has taken the ca. emmisions off. has been garaged for a while. original owner. it looks like a project... he's asking $1800. but after looking at it i'm thinking...$800. sound good? carlos off2bend@...
