Hello everyone- Kurt Simpson, has to be one of the most thoughtful, artful, and caring MC journalists in the field. I've worked closely with Kurt over the past 2 years, as a friend, list member, and Test Rider for DSN. Although Kurt is stepping down as chief in several capacities at this time, I personally, as I'm sure many of you, would feel a great loss if he were to no longer be part this wonderful community and cause which he has been so vital in supporting and uplifting. Fortunately, Kurt has assured me that he plans on being a part of things to come. I want to Thank You Kurt, for all you've done. I know I"m not alone in my gratitude. It is my pledge to uphold, carry on, and continue to uplift the Dual Sport News in the tradition and qualities that Kurt has established. I am lucky to have this opportunity and feel fortunate to have widespread support. I plan on attending this goal as my principal major goal for the next several years. As a rider since the age of 8, and having a love for motorcycling with emphasis on dualsporting since 1967, I feel I have an understanding about what true motorcycling is. It is my goal with DSN to make available a magazine that speaks to the rider in way that I dont see in current MC literature today. My goal is to make the ride ahead 'one to remember'. .....a part of 'history'. So, I encourage all my friends to come along .....Be apart of something special to unfold over the next months, and years....... Other than the above.......I guess we may consider things as, business as usual...... Sincerely Toby Lampson

Wow. You make Toby an editor and he starts writing like Katherine Graham. Kurt, you made a fine choice. Congraulations Toby! The Cal Posse rides again! Russel'r <- here is some pearls of wisdom for your new job Toby An editor can help a writer, but only God can help an editor. Those who prefer their English sloppy have only themselves to thank if the advertisement writer uses his mastery of vocabulary and syntax to mislead their weak minds. But once a month, or once every six months . . . there comes a moment which no one but you could cope with. Into that single moment of work goes all your education, all your background, all the thinking of your life. Robert Louis Stevenson: Do not write merely to be understood, write so that you cannot possibly be misunderstood. The answers you get from literature depend upon the questions you pose. Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfillment. Winston Churchill: This is the sort of English up with which I will not put." The original writer is not he who refrains from imitating others, but he who can be imitated by none. HG Wells: No passion in the world is equal to the passion to alter someone else's draft. If life had a second edition, how I would correct the proofs! An author's greatest fear is to appear, as a result of revision, less than brilliant. The good editor convinces authors that without revision their genius will be obscured. "Communication," I recently told a class of writers, "is your reason for being -- not nourishment of ego, not praise of colleagues, not money, not love of generations to come. You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what's burning inside you -- And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke." Editing should be, especially in the case of old writers, a counseling rather than a collaborating task. The tendency of the writer-editor to collaborate is natural, but he should say to himself, "How can I help this writer to say it better in his own style?" and avoid "How can I show him how I would write it, if it were my piece? James Thurber: Art, it seems to me, should simplify . . . finding what conventions of form and what detail one can do without and yet preserve the spirit of the whole-so that all that one has suppressed and cut away is there to the reader's consciousness as much as if it were in type on the page. There is a difference between a book of two hundred pages from the very beginning, and a book of two hundred pages which is the result of an original eight hundred pages. The six hundred are there. Only you don't see them. The difference between the right word and the nearly right word is the same as that between lightning and the lightning bug. Mark Twain: When something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing. I am sorry for the length of my letter, but I had not the time to write a short one. If everyone who wrote would put himself in his reader's shoes, at least for a time, then we'd all write a little better and walk a little easier. Robert Louis Stevenson: When I say writing, O, believe me, it is rewriting that I have chiefly in mind. ----Original Message----- From: Tobin Slide Lampson [SMTP:jazranch@...] Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2001 3:27 PM To: DRville; KLRville; Quotaville; Kurt Simpson Subject: [DSN_klr650] DSN and the DSN yahoo lists Hello everyone- Kurt Simpson, has to be one of the most thoughtful, artful, and caring MC journalists in the field. difficulty loosening left bar controls

Post by wingrj@aol.com » Thu Aug 16, 2001 1:07 am

In a message dated 8/15/01 15:00:11, jonathan.sykes@... writes: << - how might I loosen the screws without doing any damage? >> Reviewing the responces, I see everyone is addressing the symptoms and not the sickness. The left side control assemble has a notch that fits into a recess on the handelbars. Why Kaw did this, I haven't a clue. I am under the idea that when you fall over, you let the assemble move on the handelbar to prevent breakage. This notch defeats this. The solution is to split the assembly and knock off, grind down, remove that protrusion, then reassemble. And now you can use any kind of fastener you want.
