list rules...a reminder
For those of you who are new and those who aren't...there are two
rules on this list. They've been there from the beginning. They are:
no spamming and no personal attacks.
Recently, IMO, there has developed a style of mean spiritedness in a
few posts... (the following are paraphrases, not actual quotes): "I
could give a rat's ass" "you're expecting ABS to make-up for being a
lousy rider" "Fxuck this or Fxuck that"...I think you get the picture.
There is no equivocation about what I'm about to say. This behavior
is going to stop. The KLR list is not for everyone. It is a zany
crazy place where you can say just about whatever is on your mind so
long as you put NKLR in the subject line. If a person doesn't want to
hear your views on Nationalism, Grizzly Bears, Smith and Wesson, they
have the delete key. If they really don't like your posts at all they
can set a filter to be rid of you. But mean spiritedness and personal
attacks are not part of the equation.
Obviously, this only applies to a few. I post it generally to offer
reassurance to those who've been disappointed that this isn't where
we're going.

Kurt,
That was timely! I am new to the list and frankly I have been shocked by the "tone" of the list. I have belonged to the Concours Listserv for a couple of years and it has always been an extra benefit to owning a Connie and a welcome diversion from work [grin]. I was hoping for the KLR list to be the same benefit, but with all the arguing and offensive language, I was planning to unsubscribe this morning.
I will probably add a filter to get rid of the NKLR posts and give it another chance.
Thanks for your timely reminder to the "vets" and information for us newbies...

I used to be on the Honda SabMag list and they had a great rule. You could
only flame someone if you had shared a drink around the campfire with that
person. Kept the list on a little more civilized level.

us newbies... Steve, the KLR list and the Connie list are similar in being terrific sources of help. If you ask a question of either list you'll get plenty of responses...if you don't ask it again for surely it was thought someone else answered it. The lists are different in that the KLR list tolerates/cultivates a kind of zany anarchy. Kind of like being in Berkeley in the '60's when you would find so many bearded bards/lunatics standing on boxes lecturing to no one in particular about everything in general. Kind of what Robert Bly talks about people living in ashes. We on the KLR list are the walking wounded and this is our refuge...every now and then we stray off-course but we come back and that is why it is now over 1,500 strong. Glad you're giving it another chance... Kurt> > Thanks for your timely reminder to the "vets" and information for

Thanks for the reminder on etiquette, I was wondering when you were going to step in. On a lighter note: Hey, 1,500 listers!!! Doesn't this mean we should have some kind of party, celebration or least a free balloon give away?!>every now and then we stray off-course but >we come back and that is why it is now over 1,500 strong.
